![]() Here is what you see on the Garmin 24k map:Īn even more egregious example. The road shown there has been there for at least 40 years that I know of. Here's a couple examples of 24k road problems I found:Ī gpsfiledepot map of an area I like to ride. But they SUCK as far as accuracy! I use them because, as the previous poster said, they are routable and I can create a route/track in a few seconds. ![]() Garmin 24k topo maps are routable and look good on their GPS units. Sometimes it's not the route you want and you have to go back and put in intermediate points to force it to go where you want. You just pick a couple of points and Garmin's Basecamp or Mapsource software packages will pick a road-following route between them. Having an autoroutable mapset makes creating routes a breeze. I always navigate using tracks and just create routes as an intermediate step. Topo 24 k are autoroutable like City Navigator so I guess you could get turn-by-turn directions. But many are open and are the most fun to ride. The Topo 100k maps are much older and some of the roads that show there and not on 24k are no longer considered viable by the powers that be. It is not uncommon to find an area where all three are different. The Topo maps do show some roads not on City Navigator. ![]() Getting them on the SD card allows you to use them in different GPS units, but not very easily on a computer. I always buy the DVD for maps mainly because I am old-fashioned. I use both Garmin Topo 100k and 24k maps in addition to City Navigator for trip planning and sometimes the 100k when riding. ![]()
